Just in time for Memorial Day, the D.C. chapter’s 801 East held their May social event to kick off summer right!

On May 22nd  residential and non-residential members gathered at Bon Air Park, in Arlington, VA, to cookout, play some games and socialize.  Core members Preeti Balakrishnan and Annie Durkin organized the event to perfection, although no one could control Mother Nature.

The rain came down, but everyone stuck it out. While they ate their fill of grilled burgers and hot dogs, they took a tour of the rose garden and learned how to play dominoes from Mark M. – the self-proclaimed Domino King!

You can see pictures from the event here.

Baltimore members outside the Ringling Brothers Traveling Circus in April 2010.

Inspired by Member Carlos of Baltimore’s MCVET team, who has been begging to go to the circus since he heard it was in town, members from THUMB, Baltimore Station and MCVET all rekindled the little kid inside and went to the circus! Lions, tigers and clowns OH MY!

St. Christopher's team members at the Baltimore Centre Stage theater April 6, 2010

Thanks to our well connected social coordinator Diane, a sizable crew from Christopher’s Place was able to enjoy the final dress rehearsal before the opening of “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”at Centre Stage.

Set in a Chicago recording studio, the show portrays the African American experience in the early 1920s and explores issues of race, music, religion and the white producers’ exploitation of black recording artists.

In the photo above, the group displays their most dramatic excitement at being the first to preview the play!

The play’s title comes from a song of the same name from Ma Rainey, called one of the first blues musicians. Listen to it below.
