When Doris Boyd first heard about Back on my Feet in the orientation she thought, “someone has to be crazy to do this!”.  After the presentation she challenged herself to give it a try because she liked the idea that res and non res all run together side by side.   Doris was very excited on her first day of running and really set the pace for her dedication by walking/ jogging 3 MILES!  Not bad for someone who had never been a runner!   Since then she maintained 100% attendance while at Shelia Dennis. She has completed Running for Answers 5 Mile race in November 2010 and she is very excited to run another. So far she has completed over 85 miles and looks forward to hitting that 500 miles mark!  While she is running she always tells herself that she can do it and that is the slogan for the team.

By joining Back on My Feet she has seen many changes in the way she thinks as well as other aspects in her life. She realizes that if she wants to do something she can just go ahead and try to get there and she also realizes that if she doesn’t start she can never finish.  She enjoys BOMF because it allows her to set goals, stay focused and achieve them. Back on My Feet has helped her get involved with GED classes and once she completes them she will enroll in culinary art classes. As of December 2010 she had moved into her own place and she babysits her grandkids on the day she doesn’t have GED classes.  She would like to thank the Shelia Dennis team for all of their support: Kris, Juliane, Marie, Megan, Grandma, Suzanne, Frances, Peaches, Pinky, Dawn, Christine M., Christine. H., Lindsey, Jennifer, Jacqueline and Alberta.  She thinks of them not as running friends but more of an encouraging sisterhood of strong women.
