With the holiday season officially upon us and 2011 just around the corner, we wanted to let everyone know what the Boston chapter has been up to. It’s been a busy autumn for everyone with races, milestones and BOMF celebrations.
Veterans Day was a day of reflection and honor for our BOMF veteran members. Goldman Sachs celebrated the bravery of our Res members by hosting a special Veterans Day run and reception starting from the New England Center for Homeless Veterans. It was an evening of appreciation for all the sacrifices our servicemen and women make every day, and a wonderful introduction to BOMF for many Goldman Sachs employees.
Next up: Back on My Feet ROCKED the first annual Ruckus Boston, a three-mile military-style obstacle course at the Marshfield Fairgrounds on November 13. Representing the resident members were Kurt R., Karl H., Steve C., Lenny P., Andrew N., Bryson A., Jeff B. and Randy B. We also had a strong showing of Non-Res members, including Anne Mahlum, all of whom were ready to get muddy!
The next morning, BOMF members Kurt R., Sean M., Randy F., Steve K., Mary Ellen C., Roy S. and Mike A. pounded the pavement in Newton for Chilly Half Marathon. This was Back on My Feet Boston’s first half marathon and the results were amazing. Non-Res members from Boston Rescue Mission, St. Francis House and Hope House were out cheering their teammates on from the course and the sidelines.
All teams were invited to take part in Boston’s Freedrom Trail Run, a 5K run along the city’s historic freedom trail. Tour leader Ed O’Connor generously donated a tour to Back on My Feet and led a winding jog past many of the most important landmarks from America’s Revolution. This was a history lesson unlike any they’d experienced before. And now, Back on My Feet is the star of the Freedom Trail website. Check it out!
And finally, thanks to the generosity of Mayor Menino and the work of Councilman Rob Consalvo, Back on My Feet was able to experience an evening of winter fun at the Boston Common Frog Pond.
As you can see, it’s been an exciting Fall here in Boston. Now we’re focusing on staying warm for what is already promising to be a cold winter! That’s okay because our warm hearts will keep the Boston chill away. Right?
