What best describes the month of September for the Ridge Team? Awesome races!

The month started with the Tim Kerr 7 Mile Island 5k and 7 miler in Avalon, N.J. on September 5th.  Ridge sent three res members to the race—Lavon and James in the 5k and Frank in the 7 miler. This was an extra special race for James because it was his very first 5k with BOMF!  Frank stayed focused and ran well, almost breaking one hour for relatively out-and-back 7 mile course (his time was 1:00:08). Also competing in the race were Joe, Caitlin, Caryn, Tom, Laurel, Cathy and Katie.

After the race, BOMF took to the beach and had a blast hanging out by the water!  It was a chance to relax in the sun with the other BOMF teams. We had a fabulous lunch, walked on the beach and built sandcastles.

Following the Tim Kerr races, the Ridge team settled in to build its mileage in preparation for the Philadelphia Distance Run and the Philly Marathon.

On Sunday, September 19th, Kenny, Lavon and Frank got up early, joined over 15,000 other participants and ran through the streets of Philadelphia while listening to rock bands.  The 13.1 mile course featured a band every mile to help keep people motivated and moving.

PDR was Lavon and Frank’s first half marathon and Kenny’s second half (he ran the Caesar Rodney half last March).  All three ran great races and crossed the finish line feeling strong.  Lavon finished in 2:25:19; Kenny ran 2:11:06 and Frank finished in 2:02:05!

Many non-res members participated in PDR as well: Cathy, Andrew, Caitlin, Joe, Alexa, Marissa, Shannon and Chas.  A special THANK YOU to Steve, Mark, Matt and several other members who volunteered at the mile 5 water stop.  Not only did they have to be at Lloyd Hall at 6am to set up 35 tables of water and cytomax, they also handed out water to all the runners (and we all know how demanding runners can be)!

The fun did not stop after PDR for the Ridge team—we participated in BOMF at the Phillies game against the Atlanta Braves. Members with 90% attendance—Fiddy, Lavon and Frank—were invited to the game.  Not only did the Phllies win (1-0), but the Phillies charity donated $10,000 to the program.

Res Member of the Month: Frank                                                                  Non Res Member of the Month: Joe

The res and non-res members of the month for September are Frank Thomas and Joe Lynch.  Frank continues to push himself and helps to motivate his teammates every day.  He is one of the team jesters, with a ready smile after the run; he’s all business while running.  He showed off his weaving skills during PDR, where he passed lots of people!  Since starting with BOMF, Joe has been a part of almost every run, race and team event!  He consistently chooses to run long and is always supportive of and encouraging to the guys.

Look for us in October as we rack up the miles!
