Members and staff of SPIN, Special People in Northeast (Philadelphia), make a donation to Back on My Feet Philadelphia staff and members

Sometimes two organizations with different members but distinctly similar missions of empowerment and self-sufficiency come together in unique ways.

Last week, members and staff of SPIN Special People in the Northeast (Philadelphia), a child and adult services and support organization, made a donation to Back on My Feet Philadelphia.

A handful of SPIN members, who shared a class that looked into community service, voted to support Back on My Feet and raised $100 by selling water ice at their Norcom Community Center in Northeast Philadelphia. To present Back on My Feet with the generous donation they worked so hard to earn, the group invited our team.

Two staff members and Thomas “Mohamed” Young, a residential member from the New Jerusalem facility, were welcomed into the brightly colored community center, which featured tens of smiling faces and open arms.

See more photos of the day here.

The half dozen members who helped raise the money put together a presentation to introduce themselves and talk about their decision to sell water ice to help benefit our organization!

Philadelphia chapter Program Director Owen Camuso and Mohamed each spoke about their experiences with Back on My Feet and

SPIN Community Affairs Director Bernice McHale spoke about her organization’s work.

What an amazing feeling to be so welcomed by an organization that has its own mission to focus on. The Philadelphia chapter and SPIN will likely work together in the future.
