Race resume:
Ive been running for over 15 years. In 1996 I ran my 1st marathon, but it was a bad experience due to poor training, so only in 2009 I decided to attempt another marathon after joining the Runners World Marathon Challenge, it was such a great experience that I have already joined the 2010 Challenge and will run my 3rd marathon in November.
Share some of your training tips:
Ive been doing long distance runs on the weekends in preparation for the Lone Ranger; in the last month and a half I started doing some back to back long runs being one on Fridays mid to end of the afternoon, while its still pretty hot in the day, and the other one on Saturday mornings. I have been extra careful with recovery on the days that follow those long runs; swimming has become my activity of choice for cross-training on those recovery days.
The most important part of training to me is to pay attention to the body’s signals and always, always allow enough time for recovery. The body is an amazing machine and when we treat it well and give it proper fuel, it can really go a long way.
Training in this heat is very demanding on the body so hydration has also been one of my top priorities. Ive been drinking lots of coconut water because its loaded with Potassium and its also delicious!
How is the training going to date:
Training is going well. I’m very fortunate to have my husband as my running partner.
We will be running the Lone Ranger together. We usually do our weekend long runs on the Lone Ranger course and those runs have become a very special time for us when we slow down from our daily routine and spend some good time talking while we go through the miles.
Since we started bumping up the miles early Spring, there were a lot of newly born goslings along the course.
Each week that we came back and added some extra miles to our training, the little goslings were getting stronger and becoming more self-sufficient, so it was an interesting analogy to watch the geese moms training their babies to be ready for the migration that happens later in the year as we were training and also becoming strong in our distance running to be ready for our big event.
The 20in24 race event is a major source of funding for Back on My Feet. Is that a reason you get involved? Tell us about your experience or interest in that organization.
When I learned about BOMF in 2008, I felt very strongly about its potential, any runner knows how powerful running can be once you start going beyond your limits and realize that so many other things in life also become possible when you give them a try. Ive been in many races with the BOMF members and the happiness on their faces is just something priceless.
Knowing that participating in the event supports changing so many lives for the better is an awesome reason to get involved.
Have you run any 20in24 races before? If so, any particularly strong memories worth sharing?
My husband and I ran the 2008 & 2009 Midnight Madness. The 2008 run was very special for us because that night was also our wedding anniversary; it was really cool to be able to run at midnight while celebrating the special date.
Is there a recipe, you’d most like to have after finishing your 20in24 race, using Stroehmann baked goods?
I wont need to wait for the finish; I’m planning to bring a few almond butter and pear butter sandwiches made with Stroehmann bread to eat throughout the day.
Each runner is different, I find this combination to be easy on my stomach while giving me energy to keep going in this type of event when you get to that point where you don’t feel like having another energy gel or any engineered food.
What makes the 20in24 special?
Besides the amazing opportunity of helping others, hanging out with other runners, volunteers and friends that stop by during those 24 hours is a very unique experience.
Last year I stopped by during the day to cheer on the Lone Rangers and the Relay Teams and totally fell in love with the atmosphere of the event.

You should take part in a contest for one of the best blogs on the web. I will recommend this site!
Not often do I encounter a blog that’s both educated and entertaining, and let me let you know, you have hit the nail on the head. Your concept is outstanding; the issue is something that not enough people are speaking intelligently about. I’m very comfortable that I stumbled throughout this in my quest for something referring to this.
