Emery House Members of the Month, Scotty W in the middle and Devon M. at right
The month of June has been a scorcher, and the Emery House team has brought the heat as well! Despite temperatures reaching into the 100′s, Emery House has been out each and every morning, working on their distance with longer runs and their speed with track workouts. Some members have even begun to train for the Woodrow Wilson Half Marathon in September!
Four members of Emery competed in the Father’s Day 8K on June 20th in Georgetown. Chris H. beat his incredible time of 34:34 last month with an impressive 32:59, coming in 19th out of 195 runners! Eric B. and Sam S. will soon start the second phase of computer classes with Byte Back and Alphonzo C. is enrolling in a Heavy Equipment Licensing program. Also, congratulations to Eric B. who is this month’s DC Chapter Member of the Month!
RESIDENTIAL MEMBER OF THE MONTH: SCOTTY W.
When you first meet Scotty, he comes off as such a tough guy that you would never guess that he’s the runner that he is. A self-proclaimed silverback gorilla, upon starting with Back on My Feet, Scotty would complain about runs and boycott stretching with the attitude of his primate counterpart. However, just 2 short months later, Scotty’s attitude has done a complete 360. He has 100% attendance and looks forward to the runs each morning, in addition to participating in monthly races and social events. He still grumbles about stretching every now and then, but has become integral to the team, especially in leading morning warm ups. We’re so proud of you Scotty!
NON-RESIDENTIAL MEMBER OF THE MONTH: DEVON M.
Devon’s consistently positive attitude and bright smile have been a huge part of Emery House’s success since the beginning. Devon is always the first to welcome new members to the team and will encourage anyone and everyone along the morning route. Her support and dedication, especially on Saturday runs, prove why she should be the June Member of the Month. Thank you Devon!
