Walt, at right, earned a job at a Baltimore Marriott. His friend and teammate George H. is on his right.
On Friday morning, Walt J. from team Baltimore Station proudly announced that he received a job as a banquet aid at the Marriott.
At the launch breakfast in DC, Mr. David Grissen, Marriott President of the Americas, announced during his speech that he would hire anyone with 90 percent or better attendance from the Back on My Feet team at South Baltimore Station. The team from Baltimore Station left at 4:30 am to March 22 be a part of the very first BOMF run in DC .
“You would have thought the way Walt dressed for that interview, he could have been my lawyer. Walter was about the business,” said teammate George H.
Walt took Grissen up on the offer and during his interview he confidently spoke about his laudable attendance, promising commitment and pursuit of the opportunity Grissen’s words that had continued to motivate him throughout the interview process. Walt, and subsequently the entire BSTAT team was particularly touched to learn that Grissen, a man of his word, had given the go ahead to hire him.
Grissen writes in to say Walt truly did earn the spot, though, all on his own.
Ed Rudzinski, the GM of the Marriott Baltimore Waterfront hotel called me when he was interviewing Walter. Even in a 750 room hotel, the GM is the final interview for all potential new hires. He was very impressed with Walter (and the suit he was wearing) and offered him the job before he knew that he was part of BOMF – so Walter did a great job in the interview and I’ll take no credit!
Let me just add one additional comment from the conversation. Ed, who is almost a 40 year Marriott associate and a legendary General Manager in our company, told me that Walter’s reaction to being hired was the best moment he’s had at work in the past year. Anne, as I expected after our first conversation, BOMF will contribute as much to Marriott as we will to BOMF.
This made my day!

Silky Slim will make Marriott very proud. Every morning rain or shine Walt is there to be with the team. He is a gentle giant and a man of accountability and conscientiousness.
