Back on My Feet Founder Anne Mahlum spoke at the National Press Club, on the roots of the organization and how running can help tackle homelessness, on Monday, March 15, 2010.

The speech came ahead of the organization’s D.C. chapter launch. Read about her address here.

Some key points and video of her address below:

  • Her father’s addiction and her first interest in starting Back on My Feet was tied to that teenage battle.
  • The timing of the D.C. launch coming after lessons learned in expanding to Baltimore in 2009 and developing the Philadelphia chapter since July 2007.
  • The possibility of greater impact on the national homelessness agenda with a D.C. location
  • Plans to expand to Boston and Chicago in 2010 and five more cities in 2011
  • That Back on My Feet’s running program is a community building mechanism meant to drive members toward its job training, education and house program partners.
